Duẩn takes 9th stage, Trung wins tournament

Võ Phú Trung of An Giang guaranteed his top position in the ranking after the ninth stage of the VTV International Cycling Tournament, while Lê Văn Duẩn won the penultimate stage yesterday.

HÀ NỘI – Võ Phú Trung of An Giang guaranteed his top position in the ranking after the ninth stage of the VTV International Cycling Tournament, while Lê Văn Duẩn won the penultimate stage yesterday.

Duẩn of the Vietnam US Society English Centre won the 91km race from Hải Phòng to Hà Nội with a time of 2hr 9.7sec. He was followed by French Jos Koop of Laos and Duẩn’s teammate, Lê Nguyệt Minh.

Trung was not named in the top three but he ensured his tournament yellow jersey when the An Giang rider set up a 20sec gap with his followers, Trần Nguyễn Duy Nhân of Military Zone 7 and Koop. There is only stage of the race left and it is now impossible for his challengers to win.

In the race for the green jersey, Koop is leading with 138 points. Duẩn is close behind with seven points less. The winner will be decided by the final stage results today.

In the team rankings, Domesco Đồng Tháp placed on top. Hạt Ngọc Trời and VUS-HCM City ranked second and third, respectively.

The final stage of the race is 10 laps (51km) around Hoàn Kiếm Lake. VNS
