Đà Nẵng — Hosts Phan Thị Thanh Bình and Lý Hoàng Nam of Becamex Bình Dương took women’s and men’s titles at the National Tennis Championships yesterday in Đà Nẵng.

Playing on home court at the city’s Youth Tennis Centre, Bình was shocked when she lost 6-2 in the first set to tough rival Trần Thị Tâm Hảo from HCM City.

However, Bình then gained her momentum to tie the game with a 6-4 win in the second set before completing the final with a 6-4 win in the third set.

Bình also celebrated her triumph at the national championship when she took the women’s double title with teammate Đỗ Thị Đan Thi.

Đà Nẵng’s women’s duo beat HCM City’s Trần Thị Thanh Trúc and Sĩ Bội Ngọc 6-1, 6-2.

In the men’s final yesterday, top player Hoàng Nam cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Hoàng Thành Trung of Police.

Nam and his teammate Nguyễn Văn Phương also swept the men’s double crown after an easy 6-3, 6-1 win over Trương Thanh Giang and Lê Quốc Khánh of HCM City.

In the mixed doubles final yesterday, Lê Quốc Khánh and Trần Thị Tâm Hảo of HCM City had a tough game against Trần Thanh Hoàng and Nguyễn Từ Kim Ngân of Military.

The Saigonese duo won 6-3 in the first set, but they lost 6-2 in the second set, and the final needed a tie-break to decide the winner. Khánh and Hảo produced a better performance to win 10-5 in a tie-break series to take the trophy home.

The national team will choose the top form players for prolonged training sessions in preparation for big tournaments in Asia and the world ahead. — VNS
