Tâm wins third stage of Mekong cycling event

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thành Tâm of Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời-An Giang won the third stage of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tournament yesterday.

Tâm clocked a time of 2:21.08 in the 97km stage from Cao Lãnh to Long Xuyên City. Lê Văn Duẩn of VUS-HCM City and his teammate Lê Nguyệt Minh were the runners-up.

With the win, Tâm took the yellow jersey for the best overall time of 8:08.54 after three stages. Duẩn and Hà Thanh Tâm of An Giang Plant Protection were in second and third, respectively.

Duẩn performed outstandingly in the sprint competition, earning 55 points in the race for the green jersey, followed by Tâm with 50 points.

In the team rankings, VUS-HCM City took the lead with a combined time of 24:27.39. Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời-An Giang and the Military Zone 7 are in second and third.

Today, cyclists will compete in the fourth 96km stage from Tân An City to Trà Vinh City.

The annual event attracted 15 teams nationwide to compete in a 1,043km nine-stage race through 13 cities and provinces.

A total of US$14,500 prizes will be presented to the winners of the tournament. – VNS
