HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam flag raising ceremony was organised yesterday in Brazil to officially mark the presence of Vietnamese competitors at the Olympic Games.

Việt Nam’s Chef de Mission, Trần Đức Phấn, and about 30 members attented the ceremony at the Athletes’ Village. The rest of the delegation, wrestlers and badminton aces, yesterday departed from Hà Nội for Rio de Janeiro.

At the Rio Games, 23 Vietnamese players will compete in 10 sports.

The Olympics will kick off on Friday with fencer Nguyễn Thành An carrying the national flag.

Fencing, judo and shooting are the first three teams to compete just one day after the opening.

Việt Nam hopes to achieve medals in shooting and weighlifting. — VNS
