Master Hiền bags silver at national chess competition

World U8 champion Nguyễn Lê Cẩm Hiền earned a silver medal at the National Youth Chess Championship’s girls’ U9 category yesterday in Đà Nẵng.

HÀ NỘI — World U8 champion Nguyễn Lê Cẩm Hiền earned a silver medal at the National Youth Chess Championship’s girls’ U9 category yesterday in Đà Nẵng.

Hiền, from Quảng Ninh Province, grabbed 7.5 points and came in second in the standard chess event.

Thái Ngọc Tường Minh of Đồng Nai won a gold medal with 8.5 points.

Earlier, Hiền claimed a bronze medal in rapid chess and finished sixth in the blitz event.

In other standard categories, Vương Trung Hiếu topped the boys’ U20; Nguyễn Hoàng Anh won the girls’ U20; Phùng Thị Quỳnh Trang triumphed in the girls’ U17, and Lê Minh Hoàng claimed the boys’ U17. — VNS
