HÀ NỘI – Defending champions Thái Sơn Nam District 8 FC were held 1-1 by Bangkok FC in their third match at the ASEAN Football Federation Futsal Club Championship yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The Vietnamese winners have seven points and secure their place in the women’s final match.

Thái Sơn Nam District 8 went into the lead just two minutes after the start through Nguyễn Thị Thành. But their hopes of reeling in more goals did not quite work out as Bangkok FC fought back. They landed two penalties in the dying minutes, but Sawitree Mamyalee and Treeratchada Boonpload, both failed to score.

The pace picked up in the second half with play quickly switching from end to end. Both had their chances but Bangkok’s Sawitree did not miss her second penalty and levelled the score.

In the first match of the day, Khon Kaen FC, also from Thailand, defeated W FC of the host 3-1 to take the second position in the ranking with six points.

The two leading teams will play each other in the final group round match today.

The top two clubs at the end of the group stage qualify for the final while the third and fourth placed teams in the standings will slug it out in the third-fourth place playoff. – VNS
