HÀ NỘI — Huỳnh Thanh Tùng won the overall yellow jersey for best time at the Hạt Ngọc Trời Cycling Cup, which wrapped up yesterday.

Tùng of Military Zone 7 triumphed with a total time of 22:20.48 after 12 stages. He also won the green jersey as the best sprinter with a total of 101 points.

"I am very happy with this result. I thank my training board and team for supporting me to win two awards during the event," Tùng said.

With Tùng’s efforts, his team, Military Zone 7, took the lead in the team rankings with a time of 67:08.06, followed by An Giang and Vĩnh Long.

In the amateur category, Nhonh Lenh of Cambodia won the overall yellow jersey with a time of 22:21.12, while Nguyễn Hoàng Sang of Cà Mau held the green jersey with 106 points.

The 21st annual tour, also called Return to the Countryside, attracted 90 athletes from 17 local crews and one Cambodian crew, who competed in 12 stages and cycled 913km, the longest distance in the tour’s history.

Organisers donated just over VNĐ1.3 billion ($58,400) to a charity on the sidelines of the event. — VNS
