Tùng takes yellow jersey at cycling cup

HÀ NỘI -- Huỳnh Thanh Tùng took the yellow jersey for the leading rider after the 12th stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Cup yesterday.

The Military athlete completed the 97km race from Quy Nhơn City of Bình Định Province to Tuy Hòa City of Phú Yên Province in 2hr 17.51min.

Nguyễn Tấn Hoài of Domesco Đồng Tháp and Nguyễn Minh Luận of Vĩnh Long finished second and third, respectively.

The race was shortened from 116km to 97km, forcing all teams and to make adjustments and Tùng took advance to win a stage for the first time and secure first place after 12 stages.

He ended An Giang’s Nguyễn Thành Tâm’s hold on the jersey, who held it for each of the previous 11 stages. Tâm’s fall 3km from the finish line caused him drop to second place but he maintained the green jersey.

In the team race, An Giang took the lead. They were followed by VUS HCM City and Domeso Đồng Tháp.

Today, cyclists race from Tuy Hòa to Nha Trang City of Khánh Hòa Province on 120km. — VNS
