Việt Nam won gold medals at the Asian Youth Chess Championship, which is continuing in Mongolia.

The young masters triumphed in both blitz and rapid chess events yesterday.

In the blitz competition, they won three gold, three silver and one bronze medals.

Among the winners, Vũ Mỹ Linh took the title in the U8 Girls, Đặng Anh Minh won the U8 Open and Nguyễn Hồng Nhung triumphed in the U10 Girls competition.

In the rapid, they earned two gold medals, one silver and four bronze. Linh topped the podium for her second time before Ngô Trí Đức triumphed in the U12 Open.

The wins were not expected by the Vietnamese managers, according to coach Đặng Vũ Dũng.

The championships will continue today and close on April 15, with four rounds of standard chess. -- VNS
