HA NOI  (VNS) — Can Tho recently worked actively to lure quality players who could lift the team's game in V.League 2016.

The Mekong Delta province team have completed their line-up by signing up striker Patiyo Tambwe, the last season's best scorer.

"A one-year deal has been signed. He is the best player in our squad and it is the most expensive deal in our history," Nguyen Thanh Danh, Can Tho executive director, said.

Tambwe pocketed US$120,000 after agreeing to join Can Tho. He will receive a monthly salary of $12,000 per month.

The signing up of the Congolese player, who scored 18 goals last year, is one of 13 contracts that Can Tho have finalised in their second year in V.League.

Earlier, national team member Nguyen Hai Anh arrived from Dong Nai to train with Oseni Ganiyu Bolayi, who ended his contract with Becamex Binh Duong.

"They are not very well-known forwards, but together with Tambwe, I believe they will complement each other. Can Tho's attackers will threaten any defence," coach Vu Quang Bao said.

Bao, who comes from the football hub, Nghe An Province, also lured his fellow players to join the team.

Midfielders Le The Cuong and Nguyen Quang Tinh have agreed to play here for three years. They are among seven players who have joined Can Tho from Song Lam Nghe An.

Former national defender Tran Chi Cong's return to play for his home team was a success with the team managers.

He will strengthen the defence line-up together with Dinh Tien Thanh and Tran Tan Dat and the two goalkeepers, Tran Buu Ngoc and Nguyen Thanh Diep.

"We are well prepared for the coming season. It means that we will not worry about relegation any more. What we care about is to improve our ranking, which must be higher than last year," Bao said.

Can Tho finished the 2015 season in 11th place out of 14 teams.

"We made a huge change in our team with valuable players for the coming season, so that we don't have to struggle in V.League like last year, which marked our debut in this competition," Chairman Tran Minh Tam of the Can Tho FC said.

He said his target now was to attract as many fans as possible to the stadium.

"We will play effective and beautiful football. It will bring more spectators to the stands," Tam said.

The new season will begin on February 20, though the detailed schedule has not been released yet. — VNS
