HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Thi Oanh of Ha Noi broke the national record in the women's 100m at the National Youth Athletics Championship in Ha Noi on August 18.
Oanh clocked a time of 11.71sec to break the old record of 11.73sec set by Luu Kim Phuong of HCM City.
The silver and bronze medals in this division went to HCM City's Luu Kim Phung and Le Tu Chinh.
Le Trong Hinh, who has recovered from injury, won the gold medal for the Thanh Hoa team in the men's 100m with a time of 10.50sec.
In the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Ha Tinh's Truong Thi Thuy Kieu won the gold medal with a time of 10:47.87, followed by Hoang Thi Trang with a time of 11:26.10 and Vu Thi My Ngan with a time of 12:17.27.
The Thanh Hoa team continued to shine at the event, with Le Trung Duc bagging the men's 5,000m gold medal with a time of 16:18.56. Trinh Quoc Luong of the Military team won the silver medal with a time of 16:23.13, and Nguyen Quoc Dung of Khanh Hoa claimed the bronze medal with a time of 16:23.52.
In other news, Nguyen Thi Truc Mai of Vinh Long made her mark by leaping 6.11m in the women's long jump.
At the end of the first day of competition, Vinh Long topped the medals table with two gold medals, and a silver and bronze medal each. Thanh Hoa came second with two gold medals, while the hosts Ha Noi came third with a gold and a silver medal each.
More than 300 athletes from 45 teams from across the country are competing in 24 men's and women's events for 48 sets of medals. — VNS
