HA NOI (VNS) — Midfielder Nguyen Huy Hung was named man of the match when Viet Nam played Malaysia in the ASEAN Football Federation-Suzuki Cup's semi-final's first leg, and could become one of the best midfielders in the ASEAN region, according to the Malaysian edition of goal.com.

Hung absolutely bossed the midfield and was outstanding in his all round display. Winning 93.3 per cent of his duels and with a 100 per cent tackling record, he completely shut down Malaysia's midfield engine.

The 22-year-old was also no slouch with his distribution after winning possession.

With an 80 per cent passing accuracy, Hung was the instigator of Viet Nams's counterattacks. The speed with which Viet Nam broke had the Malaysians defending in sixes and sevens and, Hung was pivotal.

The website also said that if Hung continues to develop, he will definitely become one of the best midfielders in the ASEAN region, but also perhaps at higher levels.

For the semi-final's second leg to be held at Ha Noi's My Dinh National Stadium tomorrow, Japanese referees will officiate over the game.

Experienced referee Toma Masaaki will be in charge. In November 2011, the 41-year-old became the first foreign referee ever to be invited to officiate in a match in England's FA Cup when he was chosen to referee the First Round match between Brentford and Basingstoke Town. — VNS
