HA NOI  (VNS) — Viet Nam won two more silver medals from cyclist Nguyen Thi That and long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.

That surprised Vietnamese fans when she won the silver medal in the women's road race at the Songdo Road Cycling Course because Viet Nam was not known to be strong in cycling.

Jutatip Maneephan of Thailand won the gold medal while Hsiao Mei Yu of Chinese Taipei won the bronze. Nguyen Phan Ngoc Trang, the only other Vietnamese female cyclist in the event, placed 15th.

Meanwile, Thao won the silver medal in the finals of the women's long jump with a personal best of 6.44m after six attempts. Londa Natalia of India took the gold medal with 6.55m while Jiang Yanfei of China took the bronze with 6.34m.

In the men's 1,500m event, Duong Van Thai placed eighth with a time of 3:50.50.

After 10 days of competition, Viet Nam ranked 18th in the medal tally with one gold, nine silver and 20 bronze medals. China maintained the top spot with 112 gold medals, followed by South Korea with 44 and Japan with 35. — VNS
