HA NOI (VNS) — Bui Thi Thu Thao will represent Viet Nam at the 17th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Incheon, South Korea, this September.

The athlete won the women's long jump gold medal with a 6.46-metre leap at the Track and Field International Championships in HCM City on Saturday.

She cleared the standard bar of 6.37 metres to bag a ticket to compete at Incheon. The Asian Games, held every four years, will commence on September 19 and end on October 4.

Viet Nam plans to send 180 sports persons who will compete in 19 events. The sports delegation leaders expect Viet Nam to be among the top 20 of the 45 participating nations.

Vietnamese athletes hope to win two or three gold medals.

In the last ASIAD in Qatar, Viet Nam bagged one gold medal, which was won by karate expert Le Bich Phuong.

Viet Nam topped the two-day Track and Field International Championships. The hosts won eight gold medals, followed by South Korea and Thailand in second and third place. — VNS
