Duan wins fifth stage of tour

HCM CITY (VNS) — Le Van Duan won the fifth stage of the 26th HCM City Television Cycling Cup yesterday.

The cyclist from HCM City's SunTek Sao Viet team finished first in the 52km stage around Phan Rang-Thap Cham City with a time of 1:11.43.

Le Nguyet Minh of HCM City's Eximbank and Tran Van Quyen of the Military Zone 7 were the runners-up.

"I have affirmed my specialty through this stage. I will try to win the next stages," Duan said.

Although An Giang Plant Protection's Ho Huynh Van An did not manage a top three finish this time, he still held on to the yellow jersey with the best overall time of 13:56.20 after five stages, followed by Nguyen Minh Luan of Thanh Son Hoa Nong and Phan Hoang Thai of Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap.

An also donned the green jersey as best sprinter with 61 points.

The team rankings remained unchanged. Thanh Son Hoa Nong took the lead with a time of 42:17.38. Dong Thap and Military Zone 7 were in second and third places respectively.

Today, the cyclists will compete in the sixth stage, which runs from Phan Rang-Thap Cham to Nha Trang City. — VNS
