Amateur sinks hole-in-one

South Korean golfer Han Gwon-hyun hit a hole-in-one at Quang Nam's Montgomerie Links, the managing board told Viet Nam News yesterday.

The amateur, who is a member of the club, hit a 100-yard shot at the fifth during practice last weekend.

He is the 22nd golfer to sink a hole-in-one on the fifth hole since 2009.

The fifth hole was designed as short, full water carry par-3 to a very receptive green that requires careful club selection due to the native vegetated dune above the green that shelters it from prevailing winds.

The 2012 Forbes Travel Guide rated Montgomerie Links as one of Asia's ten most elite courses.-VNS
