Vietnamese futsal (indoor football) club Thai Son Nam left for Kuwait yesterday to take part in the final round of the Asian Futsal Club Championships from July 1-6.
Head coach Sergio Gargelli said his team would reach the semi-finals despite the strength of the competition.
Thai Son Nam will compete in Group A alongside Giti Pasand of Iran, Yarmouk SC of Kuwait and Al Rayyan of Qatar.
"In my opinion, Giti Pasand is the strongest rival, followed by Yarmouk SC and Al Rayyan. However, the level of futsal of three teams is similar, so I think my team can completely surprise these rivals," said Gargelli.
Viet Nam will meet Iran on Sunday. Their next rivals are Kuwait and Qatar on the two next days.
The Vietnamese team performed outstandingly at the event's qualifying round for the South-East Asian and East Asian regions hosted by Viet Nam in March. This earned the team a place in the final round.-VNS
