HCM CITY — The changes at the bottom and top of the V- League table last weekend promise stepped up intensity as the seventh round of the top flight football league gets underway this week.
Many teams will now be motivated to hold on to or improve their positions.
Ha Noi FC, which showed signs of returning to form after a 3-1 victory over Dong Thap last week, will face a real test against SHB Da Nang, who scored a 2-0 win over current leaders Ha Noi T&T.
Fourth-placed Ninh Binh will also face Ha Noi T&T in a tough match. Both teams stand to lose their current standings if they suffer a defeat.
Becamex Binh Duong are in good spirits, eyeing three points despite playing away at Dong Thap.
Hai Phong, which finally moved off the bottom place last week, will face defending champions Song Lam Nghe An who will be looking to improve on their sixth place standing.
Navibank Sai Gon, who lost two of their last games, will host Thanh Hoa with hopes of taking the maximum three points.
"We have worked hard, but the club has not achieved desired results. The team needs to strengthen itself during the mid-season break," said Navibank Sai Gon coach Pham Cong Loc.
Loc is a young coach who has had a successful stint with his hometown club Dong Thap, but has got off to a stuttering start with Navibank Sai Gon since taking over the job from Mai Duc Chung.
Loc said that the club lacked both depth and quality. Local players were not in good form while foreign players had made little impact.
"Substitutes are not good enough to replace key players like Phan Van Tai Em and Doan Viet Cuong, who are getting older, or Nguyen Quang Hai," Loc said. — VNS
