International Grandmaster Le Quang Liem lost to his host Alexander Khalifman on Saturday at the ongoing Aeroflot Chess Open, failing to hold on to his winning streak at the event.
With white pieces, the two-time Aeroflot champion started the fifth game with impressive attacks. However, Liem, who has an Elo rating of 2714 lost to Khalifman, Elo rating of 2632, after 51 moves.
This is the first loss of Liem at the tournament and his chances of successfully defending his tournament championship title are slim as there are only four games left.
So far the Vietnamese GM has won one, drawn three and lost one at the event.-VNS
