Viet Nam to host 2016 Asian Beach Games

HA NOI – As many as 2,500 athletes, coaches and other members from 45 nations are expected to participate in the 2016 Asian Beach Games in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa in June, 2016.

The General Department of Sports and Gyms has reported that there will be 15 events consisting of soccer, volleyball, bodybuilding, marathon swimming, pencaksilat and water skiing. Other games including, shuttle cock and diving, wait for the Olympic Council of Asia's approval.

Viet Nam competitors will compete in all games and have set a target of ranking 6th to 8th in the event. Viet Nam hopes to gain gold medals in the shuttle cock, wrestling, pencaksilat and bodybuilding, typically the country's strongest events.

The competitions will also take place in the southern province of Binh Thuan and central city of Da Nang.

This is the 5th edition of the event. The Asian Beach Games are a multi-sport event to be held every two years among athletes around Asia. The games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. The first one was held in Bali, Indonesia in 2008. -- VNS
