DA NANG — Da Nang General Hospital has agreed to conduct joint research on and treatment of spinal cord injuries in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
The hospital will work in co-operation with Kinato Hospital in Osaka and the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation from Japan.
Director of the city's health department Ngo Thi Kim Yen confirmed to Viet Nam News that the agreement will focus on research and the application of stem cells in treating patients.
She said the Japanese partners would support Da Nang Hospital with technology transfers and would share their experience in spinal cord treatment in the future.
She also said the co-operation initiative would help Da Nang become the largest centre for research, technology transfers, treatment and surgery for spinal cord injuries after Ha Noi and HCM City.
The agreement was part of a medical collaboration between Viet Nam and Japan.
According to statistics, Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City and Prosthetics and Orthotics in Ha Noi provide treatment and surgery for 1,500 patients with spinal cord injuries per year, of which 70 per cent suffer from cervical spinal injuries. — VNS
