Located in a 7.2ha area, the hospital has been designed as per the health ministry's first-class hospital standards, and will have 500 beds and 600 health workers.
During the first phase, the six-storey facility, which will comprise examination, treatment and technical departments and 200 beds, will be built by 2018 with a total investment of more than VND784 billion (US$34.9 million).
Ha Noi Health Department Director Nguyen Khac Hien said most paediatrics departments in the city's general hospitals such as Thanh Nhan or Saint Paul were facing patient overload as there was no specialised paediatrics hospital.
Hien said the construction of the new hospital would meet the increasing demand for healthcare services in the city and neighbouring areas.
Ha Noi has about 7.2 million people, including more than two million children under the age of 17, or nearly 29 per cent of the city's population. — VNS
