KON TUM (VNS) – The Healthcare Department of Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands), Kon Tum, has issued warnings against infectious diseases and urged people, especially in remote and mountainous areas, to take preventive measures.
According to doctor Pham Ba Da from Kon Tum General Hospital, the time between seasons offer good conditions for infectious diseases to spread and become epidemics.
The major infectious diseases of this season are dengue fever and malaria, the doctor said.
Sudden changes in weather cause respiratory diseases, pneumonia, hand-foot-mouth disease, encephalitis, and intestinal infections, the doctor added.
At present, the paediatrics department of Kon Tum General Hospital is fully occupied with patients suffering intestinal infection and diarrhoea.
To prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases this season, health workers are conducting awareness programmes among the people, especially in remote and mountainous areas, urging them to keep their immediate surroundings clean.
People are encouraged to use mosquito nets to prevent dengue fever and malaria.
The provincial health-care sector has carried out fumigation in public places such as schools and kindergartens to eliminate mosquitos. – VNS
