HA NOI (VNS) — More than 226,000 persons were treated in more than 1,000 hospitals across the country during the eight-day Lunar New Year festival in 2015, said a health ministry report today.

The report added that 43,569 patients were injured in traffic accidents, of which 216 died in hospital, during the period.

Hospitals also treated 55 persons injured in firework accidents and 34 injured by other types of explosives.

Food safety watch teams in 63 cities and provinces across the country did not report any case of food poisoning or food-related incidents during the holidays.

However, hospitals' sources said that as many as five deaths, which are being investigated, might have been caused by food poisoning.

The ministry had ordered the country's hospitals and other medical facilities to be ready 24/7 during the holidays, in order to promptly respond to any case of disease outbreak and other emergencies. — VNS
