HA NOI — Only 1,000 people have received organ and tissue transplants in Viet Nam, according to statistics released on Thursday by the Viet Nam – Germany Hospital in Ha Noi.
Currently, 6,000 people in Viet Nam are waiting for kidney transplants and 23,000 are waiting for liver transplants.
Vietnamese transplant patients can pay up to three times less for a transplant at a domestic hospital than those receiving treatment internationally.
The first human kidney transplant in Viet Nam was conducted in June 1992 by doctors from the Central Military Hospital 103. — VNS
