HCMC (VNS) — Following an examination of more than 1,400 factories and companies in the city, the authorities of HCM City found factors such as toxic gases and electromagnetic fields to be exceeding safety levels.

The amount of light exceeded limits by 22 per cent, temperature by 14 per cent and noise by 13 per cent.

Additionally, 64 per cent of the 148 enterprises investigated for sanitation and work safety have factors that cause occupational diseases.

Only 21 per cent of the enterprises with these factors have held disease treatment programmes for workers.

"Enterprises have to check their environments each year to find dangerous and toxic factors so that they can protect people's health," Huynh Tan Tien, director of Ho Chi Minh City centre for labourers' health and environment, said. — VNS
