HA NOI — Germany's Deputy Ambassador to Viet Nam Carsten Meyer Wiefhausen yesterday presented the medal of merit on PhD Bui Cong Tho, former deputy director of the International Relations Department under the Ministry of Education and Training.
The German award was given to honour Tho's great contributions to the two countries' co-operation in education.
Dorothea Henzler, minister of Culture of the Hessen State of Germany, said that since 1995, Tho had helped promote eight co-operative agreements between Viet Nam and the State of Hessen in technology, training, science, and environmental studies.
On July 19, 2011, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan was the first Vietnamese to receive the medal of merit for developing the relationship between Viet Nam and Germany. — VNS
