Dead Japanese man tests positive for coronavirus

A Japanese man who died in Hà Nội on Saturday evening had tested positive for COVID-19.

HÀ NỘI — A Japanese man who died in Hà Nội on Saturday evening had tested positive for COVID-19.

The 54-year-old was staying on the ninth floor of the Somerset West Point Hotel in Tây Hồ.

The Hà Nội Centre for Disease Control said although the actual cause of death is still to be determined, tests carried out post mortem revealed he was carrying the virus.

Local authorities have sterilised the area surrounding the building and 139 hotel employees and guests have been quarantined.

The deceased entered Việt Nam on January 17 and was quarantined at HCM City’s Tân Bình District. During the quarantine period, he tested negative twice.

After his release from quarantine he flew from HCM City to Hà Nội on February 1.

The man’s body has been transferred to the funeral home of the Việt Nam-Germany Hospital.

Authorities in the capital are trying to track and trace anyone who may have come into contact with the man since he arrived in the country.

* Flight VN254 from 11:00 to 13:20 on February 1, from HCM City to Hà Nội.

* Somerset West Point Hotel, 2 Tây Hồ Street, Quảng An, Tây Hồ District, from February 1 to 13

* Sun Red River Building, No. 23, Phan Chu Trinh, Hoàn Kiếm District, Room 903 and Tokyo Red Grill restaurant on the 2nd floor on February 2.

* Hachi ju hachi Restaurant, 168 Xuân Diệu, Quảng An Ward, Tây Hồ district, from 6-8pm on February 3.

* Raffles Medical Clinic, 51 Xuân Diệu Street, Quảng An Ward, Tây Hồ district, on the mornings of February 4 and February 8.

* Torikichi Restaurant, 75 Kim Mã Thượng Street, Linh Lang Ward, Ba Đình District, from 7pm to 9pm on February 5.
