HCM CITY — The HCM City Association of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL HCMC) in collaboration with Horizon TESOL Centre and Tân Tạo University successfully organised the 2019 TESOL Camp with the theme ‘Global TESOL Nexus’.

With a mission to improve English teaching in HCM City, the association, reputed as a dynamic professional organisation, regularly organises free English seminars to improve teachers’ skills.

Seminars it has organised recently include TESOLTalk (in collaboration with RMIT University), OpenTESOL (in collaboration with the Hồ Chí Minh City Open University), HorizonTESOL workshop (in collaboration with the Journalism Foreign Language Center) and TESOLCamp (in collaboration with Tân Tạo University).

TESOLCamp is not a traditional seminar series, but rather a round-table talk with a specific theme.

Each topic is led by a highly experienced professional.

‘Teaching English in a fun way’, led by. Le Thanh Ngan, MSc, a member of the TESOL HCMC Association, stirred up all the participants, as the theme suggests.

In a different room, Robert Goldberg from Horizon TESOL Center led the discussion on ‘P.E.P’, which was quite a new topic about the art of using English in expressing emotions.

Dr Tran Quang Minh, member of the TESOL HCMC Association, spoke about ‘Teaching English to young learners’. This was also an interesting topic due to the increasing need to teach English to children nowadays.

There were also other discussions on English teaching at the 2019 TESOL Camp such as IELTS tips and tricks (led by Kris Danzzalan from the British Council), ESL as one facet of international communication (led by Jonathan Lankford from Tan Tao University) and hands-on classroom teaching practice (led by Peter Huynh from Tân Tạo University).

Some more general topics were also discussed, such as opportunities and challenges in globalisation of education (led by Dr Nicholas Bishop of the University of Finance and Economics) and the influence of students’ English language proficiency on EFL training (led by Dr Vuong Kim Duong of VIETD). — VNS

At the event, the president of the association, Dr Do Huu Nguyen Loc, signed a memorandum of understanding on co-operation and support for research and teaching activities in English with Tân Tạo University.
