Gang caught at border bringing drugs from Cambodia

Police from HCM City and neighbouring Tây Ninh Province arrested four people for allegedly trying to smuggle four kilogrammes of methamphetamine and ecstasy across the border from Cambodia into Tây Ninh on Friday (June 14).

TÂY NINH — Police from HCM City and neighbouring Tây Ninh Province arrested four people for allegedly trying to smuggle four kilogrammes of methamphetamine and ecstasy across the border from Cambodia into Tây Ninh last Friday.

Ngô Thị Thanh Mai, 20, of Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu Province, Nguyễn Xuân Hải, 45, of Đồng Nai Province’s Biên Hòa City, Bùi Minh Bảo, 45, of HCM City’s Tân Bình District, and Vương Quốc Thái, a Vietnamese Australian were carrying the drugs by car when they were stopped.

They were heading for HCM City, the police said.

Further investigations are on.

Traffickers often bring drugs by motorbike at night across the border into Việt Nam, and flee into Cambodia when accosted by authorities. — VNS
