ĐỒNG NAI — The People’s Procuracy of Biên Hòa city, the southern province of Đồng Nai, has prosecuted 20 persons for disturbing public order when demonstrating against the draft law on special administrative-economic units last month.

Disturbing public order is an offence stipulated in Article 318 of the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, at about 10am of June 10, many people carried banners and placards to object to the draft law on the special administrative-economic units of Vân Đồn, Bắc Vân Phong and Phú Quốc.

They moved along National Highway 1A from Tân Biên Ward to Phạm Văn Thuận Street of Biên Hòa City.

During the rally, many protestors chanted and encroached upon the road, causing traffic congestion and public disorder.

Although authorised forces persuaded the demonstrators to keep order, many of them refused and went on with disturbing actions, the indictment said.

In response to the extremist behaviours, police put 52 protestors into temporary detention. After the investigation, they asked the Biên Hòa procuracy to prosecute 20 of the arrested persons. — VNS
