TIỀN GIANG — The Mekong Delta province of Tiền Giang will start construction of affordable apartments for workers and offices for trade unions at industrial parks next month, according to Tiền Giang Province’s Confederation of Labour.

The complex will cover more than three hectares in Mỹ Tho city’s Trung An Commune near Mỹ Tho Industrial Park and Trung An Industrial Cluster.

It will include 12 five-storey blocks, two 12-storey blocks and 70 apartments.

In the complex, more than 1,000 apartments will be sold to workers for around VNĐ5 million (US$216) per square metre. They will pay by month, quarter or year over a 20-year period.

Eligible workers must be members of trade unions of companies in the province’s industrials parks; live in poor or near-poor households, and on the state’s list of preferential subjects.

The complex will have a supermarket, kindergarten, park, and children’s playground.

Ground clearance for the complex has been completed, and sample apartments are now available for view by workers.

The complex is expected to be put into use in 2020. Total capital for the project was VNĐ677 billion ($29 million), including more than VNĐ200 billion from the Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour.

The project is part of a pilot programme in Tiền Giang, Hà Nam and Quảng Nam provinces organised by the Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour.
