HÀ NỘI — An early morning blaze destroyed over 1,000 sq.m of the Sóc Sơn market in Hà Nội’s Sóc Sơn District on Thursday.

Initial investigation showed the blaze, which started at 5:30 a.m., quickly spread from shoe sellers’ kiosks to other areas of the market.

Hà Nội’s Fire Fighting and Prevention Police immediately responded to reports of the emergency by dispatching 10 fire engines and dozens of firefighters to put out the blaze, which was declared under control by 7:45 a.m.

No casualties were reported. Authorised agencies are calculating the value of the damage, while police are investigating the cause of the fire.

In another incident, about 130 firefighters in HCM City early Thursday morning successfully rescued a 61-year-old woman who was trapped in her burning five-storey house in No 224 Hải Thượng Lãn Ông Street, District 5.

There were no casualties.

Investigation showed the fire began at the first floor of the house, where wedding decorations were stored, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. It took firefighters nearly 5 hours to put out the fire, but they successfully prevented it from spreading to nearby houses.

The cause of the fire remains unidentified and the case is under investigation. —VNS
