SÓC TRĂNG — The Sóc Trăng border guards seized more than 50,000 litres of diesel in the territorial waters, some 28 nautical miles off the coast of the Mekong Delta province, on Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Thanh Lâm, head of the border guard’s Fleet Team 2, said  that the oil was seized from the fishing vessel TG 93747TS.

Captain Lê Minh Tín, 53, of Cà Mau Province’s Khánh Hưng Village, and five crew members were onboard the vessel at the time of the inspection.

Tín failed to show legal documents proving the origin of the oil to the border guards. During the initial investigation, Tín said he bought the oil from another offshore vessel.

The case is still under investigation. — VNS
