HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội’s Police Department has launched a plan aimed at curbing illegal motorbike street racing in the city as the 2018 World Cup draws near.

The Police Division for Criminal Investigation in Social Order (PC45) said under the plan No 883/PK20E-TM, they have already identified areas in the city where illegal motorbike street races could be held.

The police also said they would work with local administration officials to patrol and bring situations under control when they occur.

Colonel Đào Vịnh Thắng, head of the city’s Traffic Police Division, said a system of cameras have been installed on streets and at some local residences to help the police monitor and deal with illegal races as quickly as possible.

The police will also keep an eye on persons who have previously been fined for illegal street racing in the city, he said.

During the World Cup, the names of persons fined for illegal street racing will be sent to schools, offices and residential areas for re-education efforts.

The 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15. — VNS
