Shell explodes leaving two dead, three injuried

A shell exploded at 8.30am on Friday at a military camp in the central province of Bình Định killing two soldiers and injuring three others, according to the Ministry of Defence.

BÌNH ĐỊNH — A shell exploded at 8.30am on Friday at a military camp in the central province of Bình Định killing two soldiers and injuring three others, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The incident occurred at the Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Technology under the Sapper Force in Bình Thành Commune, Tây Sơn District. The soldiers were trying to diffuse the shell when it exploded.

The two who died are lieutenant colonel Trần Tuấn Khanh, 48, from Thái Bình northern province and major Nguyễn Quang Hinh, 48, from Hà Nội.

The others injured are captain Nguyễn Văn Phương, private first class Nguyễn Anh Tuấn and private first class Trần Văn Lãm. They are being treated at the Military Hospital 13 in the province’s Quy Nhơn City.

The Ministry of National Defense is investigating the cause of the accident.

The Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Technology is located far from residential areas, so, no civilians were harmed. — VNS
