Deputy PM orders probe into traffic accident

Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình has ordered chairman of the People’s Committee of Khánh Hòa Province to quickly investigate the cause of an traffic accident that killed two people and injured 21 others on Saturday morning.

HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình has ordered chairman of the People’s Committee of Khánh Hòa Province to quickly investigate the cause of an traffic accident that killed two people and injured 21 others on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred when a coach, carrying 31 people, was travelling on a stretch of National Highway No 27C, running through Khánh Lê Pass in the province’s Vĩnh Khánh District. The passengers were retired civil servants from northern Yên Bái Province, on a vacation trip.

Under initial investigation, the coach driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while driving through the pass, causing the coach to overturn. Local police are conducting further investigations.

The victims were taken to Khánh Hòa General Hospital for treatment.

Bình, chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, also sent his condolences to the victims’ families.

The committee yesterday visited and gave VNĐ5 million (US$220) to each dead victim’s family and VNĐ3 million ($132) to each injured victim’s family.—VNS
