CÀ MAU — The Mekong Delta Province of Cà Mau on Tuesday launched an inspection of arbitrary seafood farming and planting activities on its island.

The inspection team, led by Lê Văn Sử, vice chairman of Cà Mau Province People’s Committee, will inspect the activities of aqua agriculture, planting coconut trees and breeding chickens without the permission of Hòn Hàng Island authorities in the Hòn Chuối Island Cluster in Sông Đốc Town, Trần Văn Thời District. It will also inspect the project of breeding wild animals in combination with eco tourism on the islands of Hòn Sao and Hòn Đồi Mồi in Tân Ân Commune, Ngọc Hiển District.

Earlier this month, the provincial department of natural resources and environment submitted a report to the People’s Committee on the illegal farming activities of Bích Khải Enterprise in Sông Đốc Town, Trần Văn Thời District. According to the report, the enterprise had piloted farming clams in a 15,000sq.m area around Hòn Hàng Island as well as planting 200 coconut trees and breeding chickens without the permission of the local authorities.

A report of the Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper said a representative of Bích Khải Enterprise admitted that they had implemented the pilot project in cooperation with Hải Đăng Company, which was responsible for seeking permission. — VNS
