HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on Sunday presented certificates of merit to 10 young people for outstanding achievements in 2017.

The award ceremony, which was held to mark the 87th anniversary of the HCM Communist Youth Union’s foundation, was organised by the Union and the Việt Nam Promotion Fund for Young Talents.

The awardees include student Đinh Quang Hiếu for academic excellence, PhD holders Vũ Bích Ngọc and Phạm Huy for scientific researches, engineer Vũ Văn Bình for manufacturing achievements, entrepreneur Nguyễn Khôi for start-up, captain Phạm Văn Dân for public security, captain Tô Hồng Thái for national defence, doctor Nguyễn Văn Hiếu for social work, athlete Lê Tú Chinh for sports and Trần Minh Châu for arts.

Speaking at the ceremony, Phúc said the 10 youths could inspire others to spread good values and were shining examples of the young generation to contribute to the development of Việt Nam.

He emphasised that the party and State always paid attention and took care to promote talented young people, as the government believed that “talent is the life-sustaining element of the nation”.

Different policies and programmes to honour and promote young talents have been implemented in the past. Many talented youths have made important contributions to the development of the country.

Phúc said the title, “Việt Nam’s outstanding young people”, would motivate the youths to contribute more to society.

The award is expected to cultivate a sense of humanity in young people and promote healthy competition among the youths. It will also help raise awareness in different sections of society and encourage them to educate young people.

Phúc expressed hope that the award winners would always be aware of their responsibility and mission to continue to strive, especially at a time when the nation was innovating and integrating with the world.

The youths should incessantly innovate, study and research and apply the achievements of science and technology to create new values, he said.

“The youth union must support every young person in general and every young talent in particular. It should cultivate a good nursery to develop good worth and creativity among the youths, so that the country has more outstanding young people in different sectors,” Phúc said.

The “Việt Nam Outstanding Young People” award is organised annually to mark the anniversary of the HCM Communist Youth Union’s foundation.

Since it was first organised 21 years ago, 210 youths have been honoured. Each of them has contributed immensely to the country. — VNS
