3 die in head-on collision in Quảng Bình

QUẢNG BÌNH — A head-on collision between a truck and a coach in central Quảng Bình Province early today morning killed three persons and injured several others.

Eyewitnesses in the province’s Nông Trường Việt Trung Township said a coach collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction at the township’s section of Hồ Chí Minh Trail.

They said heavy rainfall occurred at 1am right before the accident. The coach carried a Lao licence plate, while the truck was registered in central Nghệ An Province.

According to police, the truck was approaching the trail from a smaller connecting road. The sudden appearance of the truck did not give the coach enough time to apply brakes, which resulted in the collision.

Three persons in the coach were killed, including the driver, while many others were injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Both the vehicles have been severely damaged.

Local police are further investigating the case.

Quảng Bình Province is connected to Lao through the Cha Lo Border Gate, which allows daily bus trips between the province and Khammuane in Lao. — VNS
