1 killed, 19 injured in road accident

One person was killed on the spot and 19 others were injured after a 45-seater coach overturned and plunged into an abyss at about 3am on Thursday morning at Lò Xo Pass in the Central Highlands province of Kom Tum’s Đắk Glei District.

KON TUM — One person was killed on the spot and 19 others were injured after a 45-seater coach overturned and plunged into an abyss at about 3am on Thursday morning at Lò Xo Pass in the Central Highlands province of Kom Tum’s Đắk Glei District.

The dead victim has been identified as the coach driver, Vũ Văn Huy, 34, of Hà Nam Province. All the wounded, including nine who were seriously injured, are undergoing treatment at Kon Tum General Hospital.

Initial investigations reveal that the coach, with registration number 90B-005.32, was travelling from the central coastal province of Quảng Nam to Kon Tum Province. There were 20 people on board at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident remains unknown.

After hearing about the accident, Nguyễn Văn Thanh, director of the hospital, immediately dispatched a medical team to the scene to provide first aid to the victims.

Khuất Việt Hùng, vice chairman of the National Steering Committee on Traffic Safety, visited the accident site to direct rescue work.

Nguyễn Văn Hòa, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, visited the victims at the hospital and gave them VNĐ1 million (US$44) each. The family of the driver received VNĐ2 million ($88).
