The HCM City Department of Transport has announced traffic plans for Lunar New Year’s Eve that include a ban on vehicles entering major streets on Thursday and Friday (February 15 and 16).

HCM CITY The HCM City Department of Transport has announced traffic plans for Lunar New Year’s Eve that include a ban on vehicles entering major streets on Thursday and Friday (February 15 and 16).

The New Year this year is on February 16.

Motorbikes are banned from Võ Văn Kiệt (the section from Ký Con Street to Sài Gòn River Tunnel), the Sài Gòn River Tunnel and Mai Chí Thọ (from Sài Gòn River Tunnel to Nguyễn Thạch) from 8pm on Thursday to 4am on Friday.

From 8pm on Thursday to 12:20am on Friday, all types of vehicles are banned from the following streets: Nguyễn Tất Thành (Hoàng Diệu to Khánh Hội Bridge), Tôn Đức Thắng (Mê Linh Square to Khánh Hội Bridge), Đồng Khởi (Ngô Đức Kế to Tôn Đức Thắng), and Hàm Nghi (Hồ Tùng Mậu to Tôn Đức Thắng).

Vehicles are also prohibited from Nguyễn Huệ Street (Lê Thánh Tôn to Tôn Đức Thắng) and Mạc Thị Bưởi and Ngô Đức Kế (Đồng Khởi to Nguyễn Huệ).

From 6pm to 10pm on Thursday, to facilitate the 3D lighting show in front of the city People’s Committee building, all vehicles are banned around this area.

To prevent congestion, the city’s Department of Transport is requesting the public to refrain from parking vehicles on the following bridges: Khánh Hội, Mống, Calmette, Ông Lãnh, Thủ Thiêm, Sài Gòn, Phú Mỹ, those on Mai Chí Thọ Street and across the Sài Gòn River. 

Alternative routes

Authorities said vehicles going from District 4 to District 1 on these days should take the following route: Nguyễn Tất Thành-Hoàng Diệu-Đoàn Văn Bơ-Calmette Bridge-Calmette-Trần Hưng Đạo-Lê Lợi-Pasteur-Lý Tự Trọng-Tôn Đức Thắng.

In the reverse direction they should take: Tôn Đức Thắng-Hai Bà Trưng-Lê Thánh Tôn-Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa-Nguyễn Thái Bình or Nguyễn Công Trứ-Calmette-Calmette Bridge-Đoàn Văn Bơ-Hoàng Diệu-Nguyễn Tất Thành.

Vehicles going From District 2 to District 1 should take: Mai Chí Thọ-Thủ Thiêm Bridge-Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh-Lê Thánh Tôn-Nam Kì Khởi Nghĩa-Võ Văn Kiệt.

From District 1 to District 2 they should take: Võ Văn Kiệt-Ký Con-Trần Hưng Đạo-Lê Lợi-Pasteur-Lý Tự Trọng-Tôn Đức Thắng-Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh-Thủ Thiêm Bridge-Mai Chí Thọ. VNS
