NINH BÌNH — Police in northern Ninh Bình Province said they had summoned the landlord and construction workers who were responsible for the death of a taxi passenger to record their statement.

Colonel Tống Mạnh Hùng, head of the provincial Police Department, told zing.vn that police had started investigating the accident that took place in Hoa Lư District’s Trường Yên Commune.

At 4.10pm on January 24, a taxi carrying a couple and their child was crossing a junction of Hải Thượng Lãn Ông and Trần Phú streets when a steel beam fell from a construction site.

The husband, Nguyễn Văn Bắc, 39, was killed on the spot, while his wife, child and the taxi driver were safe.

The couple was on their way to a hospital for the health checkup of their child.

Hùng said the police had started collecting testimony in the case.

Witnesses said the steel beam fell from the third floor of a construction site and went through the taxi’s roof straight into the man’s head, killing him instantly. — VNS
