Vietnamese workers die in hydropower accident in Laos

Two Vietnamese workers were killed when the scaffolding they were standing on collapsed at a hydropower project in Champasak Province, Laos.

NGHỆ AN — Two Vietnamese workers were killed when the scaffolding they were standing on collapsed at a hydropower project in Champasak Province, Laos.

Trần Duy Liêm, chairman of the People’s Committee of Tân Thành Commune in central Nghệ An Province, confirmed the deaths to Dân trí online newspaper.

The workers were identified as Phan Văn Thái, 25, from Yên Thành District’s Tân Thành Commune, and Võ Văn Tuấn, 33, from Phú Thành Commune.

Tuấn died at the scene when the accident occurred, and Thái died on the way to hospital.

According to local authorities, Tuấn was married with two children, while Thái was single. 

The victims’ families have travelled to Laos to bring them home for burial, the newspaper reported. — VNS
