The capital city’s People’s Procuracy has completed indictments to prosecute five foreigners for their criminal act.

HÀ NỘI — The capital city’s People’s Procuracy has completed indictments to prosecute five foreigners for their criminal act.

The five Colombian-passport holders are Fabian Lucero Wilches, 36; Jersain Ladino Cardona, 52; Jose Aureliano Rosas Pena, 56; Carlos Alberto Lamprea Pena, 48; and Luis Alexander Rodriguez Cuevro, 41.

They are being prosecuted for the criminial act of thievery under Clause 138 of the Criminal Code.

According to the indictment, the five became acquainted with each other while travelling in Laos and Cambodia last year.

They kept in touch through internet application Whatsapp and made plans to meet in Việt Nam to realise their plans.

Once in the country, they kept a watch on people who made money transactions at banks or foreign exchange counters.

The thieves punctured the car tyres of their victims. They then took the money lying in the car when the victims were busy replacing the tyres.

Tasks were assigned clearly for each member of the gang.

Wilches punctured the tyes and Cardona took the bags from the cars, while the other three kept a lookout and drove the getaway car.

The five guys successfully carried out two robberies in Hà Nội.

On Ferbruary 22, they stole a bag with money and gold valued at VNĐ465 million (US$21,000) from Nguyễn Văn Ngọc on Hà Trung Street.

On March 28, on Xã Đàn Street, the thieves took away bags with VNĐ1.6 billion ($75,000), belonging to Phạm Văn Bình.

The total value of the property the thieves stole was VNĐ2.065 billion (roughly $100,000).
