HÀ NỘI – The Hà Nội Customs Department on Wednesday decided to temporarily suspend two employees of the customs sub-department at the Hà Nội-based Nội Bài International Airport for having inadequate communication with passengers.

Mai Thế Hưng and Đỗ Thế Lượng were not wearing uniforms, had unsatisfactory communication with passengers and failed to abide by the customs sector’s regulations on December 17, making the passengers uncomfortable, it was found.

Their violations were discovered after a video clip recording of their behaviour was posted on social media. Basing on the initial investigation, the department confirmed their violations, according to Deputy Head of the Hà Nội Customs Department Trần Quốc Định.

Định said the department will review and check the operation of all customs staff at Nội Bài Airport in the future. Any official found to not meet professional and ethical standards will be strictly penalised by suspension and transfer, he added.

Customs officials at the airport have to handle procedures for more than 100 flights per day, resulting in pressure on officials, but also requiring them to have qualified professional and communication skills to handle the work overload, Định said. – VNS
