HÀ NỘI – Hà Nội Police in Cầu Giấy District have arrested a man suspected of physically abusing his nine-year-old son, resulted in scaring and several injures on the boy’s body.

Trần Hoài Nam and his second wife Phạm Thị Tú Trinh, the boy’s stepmother, have both been charged, but only Nam has been detained.

Trinh is prohibited to leave the country and is under supervision of the investigating body.

According to the police, Nam used tools to injure his son over a long period of time and also regularly kicked him in the ribs, causing serious injures to the child.

Police reportedly found scars on the boy’s face, head and all over his body.

The incident was only exposed when the nine-year-old escaped from their apartment in Nghĩa Đô Ward.

At the police station, the couple reportedly confessed.

Nam said he had beaten his son because the boy was sassy and disobedient.

Police said the unfortunate boy had not received any medical treatment after the beatings. He was also not allowed to go to school for two years.

Chairman of the Hà Nội People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung directed the authorities of Cầu Giấy District to investigate the case and strictly deal with the violators in accordance with the law and support the child.

Nguyễn Bích Thủy, deputy principal of Ngọc Hà Primary School, said the school was ready to take the child back to school. – VNS
