Japanese hospital to cater to tourists

ĐÀ NẴNG — JGC Corporation, a Japanese global-engineering company, plans to build a 200-bed international hospital to help provide high-quality medical services in the central city to cater mostly to the boom in tourism.

The city’s Investment Promotion Agency told Việt Nam News that the Japanese investor and two partners, the Saikeikai and Kishokai companies, would invest US$40 million in two phases. They have plans to speed up a feasibility study for the project.

The investors have already held six surveys in the city on when to start construction.

This will be the first Japanese medical investment project in Đà Nẵng.

More than 400,000 Japanese tourists, the second largest foreign group, visited Đà Nẵng in 2016. There has also been a total of more than 125 investment projects from Japan in the city with total capital of $465 million.

Japan now plans to open a consulate in the city to help the tourist boom. Airlines are now offering direct routes from Đà Nẵng to Osaka, Narita and Tokyo.

Last month, local property developer VinGroup launched the 222-bed private VinMec Đà Nẵng hospital with total investment of $53 million.

The city already has four international standard hospitals - Đà Nẵng General Hospital, the Family Hospital and the Hoàn Mỹ-Đà Nẵng and VinMec Đà Nẵng hospitals 

The city’s health department plans to build a world-class paediatric hospital in Cẩm Lệ District for about $300 million.

Đà Nẵng now has 11 hospitals with 1,000 doctors and more than 620 consulting rooms and medical-care centres. — VNS
