HCM CITY — FrieslandCampina Việt Nam has donated 24,000 glasses of milk worth VNĐ180 million (US$7,894) to school students in the central region, which was hit by the recent Typhoon Damrey.

Its charitable act came at the launch of a comprehensive programme to train members of the public in disaster prevention, provide targeted relief to victims and improve forecasting in the central region, which suffers from natural disasters every year.

Miền Trung Yêu Thương (Loved Central Region), as the programme is called, is being carried out by the Việt Nam Red Cross Society.

The milk was gifted to schools in the provinces of Thanh Hóa, Quảng Ngãi and Thừa Thiên-Huế.

In August FrieslandCampina joined hands with the Ministry of Education and Training’s national defence department to gift 30 tonnes of milk to school students in the districts of Mù Cang Chải in Yên Bái Province, Mường La and Phù Yên in Sơn La Province and Tân Sơn in Phú Thọ Province.

Earlier it had donated another 12 tonnes of milk to students in the provinces of Sơn La, Điện Biên and Hà Giang. — VNS
