ĐIỆN BIÊN — The People’s Committee of the northern province of Điện Biên has approved the upgrading of a road to the headquarter of Điện Biên Phủ Campaign in Mường Phăng  Commune.

The project is part of the tourism infrastructure development plan to support the greater Mekong Sub-region of Điện Biên Province. It has a total investment VNĐ70 billion (US$7.48 million) from Asian Development Bank (ADB) loans and other funds from the local budget.

The road has a total length of more than 17km, beginning from Điện Biên Phủ City’s Tà Lèng Commune to the provincial highway of Nà Nhạn-Mường Phăng.

The project includes the upgrading and expansion of road surfaces with asphalt concrete, drainage, the building of a bridge - and traffic safety works.

There will be two rest places with parking plots and souvernir shops.

The project will serve as a link between Điện Biên Phủ City and tourism sites.

The project will promote the war-time Điện Biên Campaign headquarters, helping alleviate poverty.

The project is expected to be completed in 2019.
